IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It is the most widely accepted English language proficiency test to assess the language ability of candidates who want to study, work and migrate in countries where English is the main language of communication. IELTS assesses all of your English skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is jointly owned by British Council, IDP Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment through more than 1,100 test centers and locations in over 140 countries.
There are two versions of the IELTS test format to choose from:

IELTS – Academic
It measures English Language Proficiency needed for an academic, higher learning environment. You should choose this version If you are applying for higher education or join a professional organisation in an English-speaking country.

IELTS – General Training
If you want to emigrate to an English-speaking country you should choose General Training test. It measures English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context.
The Reading and Writing tests differ in content, depending on whether you are taking Academic or General Training. While Listening and Speaking tests are same for both. The total duration for the test is 2 hours 45 minutes. Listening, Reading and Writing tests are scheduled together while speaking test may either be taken on the same day or within seven days before or after the IELTS exam of Listening, Reading and Writing modules.
